What was it like to make that decision? It was a long time in coming. The second emotion was shock. How did that focus come about? I learned early on that what you eat makes all the difference. What works for me is a lot of hydration — water and herbal tea — and as many vegetables as I can possibly get in my body. When you put those things together they make a difference. You have an entirely new project in the works, justBobbi. What can we expect to see?

The company became known for creating products that solved real problems, from dark circles to sparse eyebrows. And that philosophy was evident in her cosmetics launches. She favored concealers over contouring and neutral lipstick over trendy hues like navy and emerald green.

Brown also had a devotion to creating product for a range of skin tones when most brands' shades stalled out around biscuit. To her, including deep brown options in her line was common sense, not a business move. It is this laser focus on timeless makeup products for every woman, every day that has made the Bobbi Brown brand a household name, and has made Brown herself a beauty icon.

But last December, after years of pondering a change, Brown says "the timing came together" for her to step away from the makeup counter and bring her years of experience to a more holistic approach to selling beauty. Her new book is sort of like an introduction to another side of Brown that has been overshadowed by her makeup expertise. Perhaps her third son was born in the backseat of a car racing down Jones Road to the hospital?

Wrong, wrong, and wrong. Jones Road Beauty is formulated to meet the European Union's stringent ingredient safety standards. The lineup includes seven shades of moisturizing "Cool Gloss" above left and four all-over light-reflecting "Miracle Balms" above right, from bottom: Dusty Rose, Tawny, Clear, and Bronze.

The name was one of the last elements to fall into place. The essence of Jones Road an edited collection of clean, simple, multipurpose makeup and the formulas the part-moisturizer, part-skin-tint Miracle Balm , the no-goop lip gloss, the cushiony Just a Sec eye shadow were all well underway.

I couldn't do it. I wasn't talented enough to do what Kevyn Aucoin did. So I started kind of blending the blush, [using] blush that looked like the color of your cheeks. And it started catching on. But you know what?

And I want to be part of showing people how good they could look without it. Each of the 25 creamy shades is designed to target redness and discoloration where you need it and only where you need it.

When I was testing the Miracle Balm, I gave it to all my friends who are my age and they'd come back and say, 'I need more. This is the only thing I can put on that I don't look bad, I look better.
