We don't need any special function for them. You might be right, but if they do something similar to Wow's Pokemon, I think it will be a great addition. As juvenile as it was, it was a lot of fun, until the store pay to win ones were introduced.

Other possibilities for pets. Another possibility is to give pets a non-combat utility functions. For example, a switch to automatically fetch loot within a short distance. Quest tracker. Pets lead you to the closest missing quest, or quest objective in a zone. Carnage pointer. Pets point you towards missing carnage in a zone. Acts aggressive when the baddie is close. It would also be fun if pets sat with you and made some sort of sad gesture when you die in game. Basically, make them a living emotional companion instead of a cute walking statue. The planar squirrels will send little attacks at each other randomly, which I think is the coolest thing.
