It complicated where is it filmed

Allen aka Peter Mackenzie , worked. So, while the Grim Cheaper and I did walk quite a bit of the property and snapped photographs of what we thought was every square inch of the place, we somehow missed the back entrance — which, of course, was the only section of the center used in the filming. Thankfully though, our good friends Chris and Amy, who live in the area, agreed to re-stalk the place for me this past weekend. Thank you, Chris and Amy! Someone in the SB Planning Department seriously dropped the ball on that one!

So different, in fact, that I thought the Los Angeles Times article had printed erroneous information when it reported that filming had taken place at the historic shopping center. The rest of the filming took place in Los Angeles and New York. You can see some photos of the filming and read a great on-set report on the Fussy blog here. As it turns out, though, not all is at it seems, for while the movie was set in Santa Barbara, very little of it was actually filmed there.

Oddly enough, over ninety percent of the flick was lensed in New York of all places! Apparently, that first courthouse had been designed in the Greek Revival-style, which is mind-boggling to me as pretty much all of Santa Barbara is either Spanish or Moorish in design. According to the National Historic Landmarks Program , the courthouse which now stands was the catalyst for the Spanish architecture that now dominates the area, so it is amazing to think about how architecturally different the city would have been had that first courthouse not been destroyed!

Inside, the building looks much more like a museum than it does an actual working courthouse. In fact, when we first walked in, I was convinced that the property was no longer in use, but it actually still is! Can you even imagine serving jury duty in a place that looks like that???

Wow, what an amazing house. Every bit! Hi Julia great pictures, I love all the houses of Meyers movies Please, can you found for us, the set of tv show Parenthood, are fabolous and cozy places greetings mercedes. I just watched this movie over the weekend and fell in love with the whole house and set up. I was hoping you would have covered it, and am so glad you did.

That house is not my usual style, but for some reason I just loved the relaxed atmosphere associated with it. I loved the kitchen and the bakery too. I could see myself in that lifestyle. But not before I go study in France on how to make proper pasteries. I have been doing so much effort. I would be soooo happy if you can help. Can you let me know where I can get the fabric, or the cushions?? If not, can you tell me who to contact?

I would be so much helped. Search has taken me weeks already. Good luck! A real architect not Steve Martin!

Julia, Like you, I have been drawn to certain movies, only because I want to anaylze under a microscope honestly, frame-by-frame on pause the sets, or homes, in them.

Cheers to those with kindred home haunting spirits! Warmest Regards, Laura M. I am so happy to see this on the movie house list. Anything Nancy Meyers touches is amazing. Especially with the homes, apts, every living space she makes is a piece of art! I love her movies.

She and Nora Ephron are great at creating such incredible homes. I loved this house. I loved the bakery that Meryl owned. It was so pretty. Very french, very charming. Everything about the movie was so fun and colorful. The house was perfect just the way it was. They were hilarious! Those were the funniest parts. Plus Alec Baldwin. I was laughing my head off when he and Meryl were sitting in the bath and she was taking a bubble bath and she called him big guy as a kind of term of endearment..

He can pull that off with no problem. Great movie.. Geat set designs!! I quickly logged on and here it is! I love, love, love this house! How many bedrooms? How much square footage?

I wish there were one just like it near me. I love Nancy Myers movies, partly because she writes so well for women and partly because I am constantly drooling over the gorgeous sets. Her movies are like an indulgence into a life I wish I had.

I really love the set design in this movie, but the one thing that draws my eye every time is that dint in the kitchen fridge! Did you see his dancing? Good grief. Way too self absorbed. As an expat of Santa Barbara this movie really touched my SB design principles. Pierre la fond? Something new? And you did not disappoint — thank you! I totally agree this should be 1! I love Nancy Meyer films she creates amazing lifestyles on film. I love all of those homes! AND the Garden!!!

I love all Nancy Meyers movies. She has such great style. Crew catalog. The food in the movie styled by Susan Spungen. Set photos via Traditional Home and Universal Pictures.

Are you hooked on houses? Built in as the Park Tower Hotel, it is situated across the street from the southern border of Central Park and is convenient to both the stylish shops on Fifth Avenue and the nightlife of both Broadway and the Upper West Side. The story hotel has Art Deco style rooms and an in-house spa, and it is immediately recognizable by its original red neon rooftop sign.
