This was one of the closest times in his career where he thought he might not play and then ended up actually out there. And yet Stafford did what he usually has since becoming the No.
In pain and without complaint, Stafford jogged out onto the field and played through it -- completing 22 of 32 passes for yards, one touchdown and no interceptions.
That he did it with injuries to his hand and ribs and who knows what else this late in the season all became another reminder of what Detroit has in its quarterback. Not because of questions around his talent but because of what his talent could provide in return to put together more pieces for the future.
It is possible, perhaps even probable, Stafford is back with the Lions in His talent makes a case for it. But it is no longer a guarantee. Describe the game in two words: Fair effort. With an injured quarterback and a completely undermanned defense, the Lions did about as well as could be expected against the playoff-caliber Titans. The Rams supporting cast is substantially better than what was in Detroit, and coach Sean McVay's scheme makes it even easier yet on Stafford, whose current passing efficiency is far ahead of even the best seasons of his Detroit career.

Stafford wasn't exactly explosive against his former team, averaging a somewhat modest 8. The Rams running game will probably do more lifting against Houston in Week 8 after producing just 49 yards on 17 carries against Detroit on Sunday, but the throwing conditions should remain favorable for Stafford, too.

Stafford was comfortably in command for most of the contest while averaging 9. With a TD:INT thus far in his Rams career, it appears safe to say the year-old has undergone a rejuvenation by getting out of Detroit and into Sean McVay's passer-friendly system.
Stafford will look to stay hot in a highly favorable Week 7 home matchup against the Lions. Stafford completed 25 of 37 passes for yards with a touchdown and an interception in the Rams ' win over the Seahawks on Thursday night.
He also rushed once for minus-1 yard. Stafford worked with a very narrow target pool, hitting Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp for 19 of his completions and of his yards. He also connected with DeSean Jackson on a game-long yard strike, all helping to lead to a season-high passing yardage tally for the veteran gunslinger.
Stafford now has a trio of yard efforts in just five games, and Thursday's win marked his first outing this season without multiple touchdown tosses. Stafford and his teammates will now have some extra time to rest up and prepare for a Week 6 cross-country road trip to face the Giants a week from Sunday. Through three games with the Rams, Stafford now has nine touchdowns as opposed to only one interception and has completed 11 passes of more than 20 yards to go along with five of more than 40 yards. The new GM is hamstringing themselves if they trade Stafford in favor of a rookie quarterback. A rebuild is cool, but using your resources to rebuild areas that need to be rebuilt is cooler.
The guy has said on countless occasions he wants to be in Detroit. Yes, there are situations where players just say that. Alright, now that all that is out of the way, we have to address the very real thing here. This is almost over. Stafford may not be going anywhere in and maybe not even Heck, he might not leave till his contract is up. But that day is coming sooner than later. The Lions new GM will probably draft his replacement this coming April, and they probably will begin to groom that replacement behind Stafford.
